Introduction
In many parts of the world, young people are at the center of social and political challenges, often facing manipulation into violence or division. At Vision Jeunesse Nouvelle (VJN), we believe that youth are not just victims or bystanders of conflict but active agents of peace. Through our Peacebuilding Program, we equip young people with skills in conflict resolution, critical thinking, and leadership to promote unity and long-term stability.
The Role of Youth in Peacebuilding
Youth are often underestimated when it comes to conflict resolution. However, they are the future leaders, community builders, and decision-makers. When empowered with the right skills, they can:
- Challenge harmful narratives that fuel division and violence.
- Mediate conflicts within their communities.
- Advocate for peace through media, social engagement, and activism.
How VJN Promotes Peace
🔹 Peace Camps & Cross-Border Initiatives
VJN organizes peace camps and cross-border dialogues where young people from different backgrounds come together to learn about tolerance, reconciliation, and mutual understanding. These programs foster friendships and break stereotypes that often lead to division.
🔹 Cinema for Peace & Public Speaking
Through film screenings and debates, youth analyze real-life situations and learn from historical conflicts. Public speaking competitions allow young leaders to voice their perspectives on peace-related issues.
🔹 Training in Conflict Resolution
Our training sessions provide practical tools on mediation, negotiation, and non-violent communication. Youth return to their communities with the skills to intervene in disputes constructively.
A Success Story
Meet Jean-Paul, a young man from Rubavu District. Growing up in a community with ethnic tensions, he once believed that peace was an illusion. After attending VJN’s peace camp, he realized that peace starts with understanding others' perspectives. Today, Jean-Paul is a peer educator, conducting dialogues and workshops in his school to promote unity.
Conclusion
Peace is not just the absence of conflict—it is an ongoing effort that requires commitment and education. At VJN, we continue to equip young people with the knowledge, skills, and mindset to become champions of peace. Want to be part of the movement? Join us today!
