  • Job Context

Interpeace’s Great Lakes program seeks to equip young men and women, aged 18 to 30, with the knowledge and skills necessary to play a pivotal role in governance, peacebuilding, and development processes at the local, national, and regional levels. The program supports participants in designing and implementing peace-oriented initiatives that foster a shared sense of regional citizenship. It also provides access to a cross-border network that enables them to connect with decision-makers and share their ideas.

  • Job Responsibility

The Peace Fellow program will engage young men and women, aged 18 to 30, who are leaders or representatives of formal institutions, including government bodies at local, provincial, and national levels, as well as regional organizations in Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Rwanda, Uganda, and at the regional level. Additionally, the program will involve youth from diverse fields and backgrounds affiliated with various platforms, such as youth groups, youth organizations, associations, clubs, cooperatives, saving circles, university guilds, youth councils, farmers’ associations, youth in technology, youth wings of political parties through national inter-party dialogue platforms, youth in the private sector, artists, traders, musicians, and others.

This group will consist of young men and women selected by their peers, granting them the legitimacy to represent and articulate their needs, priorities, and aspirations for peace in the region at a policy level. Consideration will be given to gender, marginalized communities (such as refugees, internally displaced persons, and youth with disabilities), education (both formal and informal), occupational backgrounds, areas of interest, activism experience, and other forms of engagement. These young people will serve as crucial interlocutors and intermediaries, playing a key role in establishing and strengthening connections between youth and policymakers.
