From Classroom to Career: Tailoring Students Begin Internships at Our Rubavu VTC

Through our partnership with the Rwanda TVET Board (RTB) under the Skills Development Fund (SDF) program, 20 students at our Vocational Training Center (VTC) in Rubavu District have successfully completed 3 months of classroom learning in tailoring. They are now stepping into the next phase of their training: a 3-month internship designed to sharpen their skills and prepare them to confidently enter the job market.

Three Months of Building the Foundation

Over the past three months, these 20 students dedicated themselves to mastering the fundamentals of tailoring in the classroomΒ  building the technical knowledge and hands-on skills that form the foundation of a career in the trade. This classroom phase gave them the theory, practice, and confidence needed to move on to real-world application.

Now: Learning by Doing

With classroom learning complete, students are now beginning their 3-month internship placements, where they will apply what they've learned in real working environments. This hands-on phase is where skills are truly sharpened students will refine their techniques, gain practical work experience, and build the professional habits needed to succeed in the tailoring industry.

By the end of the internship, these young trainees will be ready to confidently step into the job marketΒ  whether through employment, self-employment, or launching their own tailoring ventures.

A Partnership That Delivers Results

This achievement is made possible through our ongoing partnership with RTB Rwanda under the SDF program, which supports technical and vocational skills development for young people across Rwanda. Together, we are working to ensure that young people in Rubavu District have access to quality, practical training that translates directly into employment and income-generating opportunities.

Looking Ahead

As these 20 students begin their internships, we look forward to seeing them grow in skill and confidence over the coming monthsΒ  and to celebrating their transition into the job market as skilled, work-ready tailors.

We remain committed, alongside RTB Rwanda, to equipping young people with the practical skills they need to build sustainable careers and brighter futures.
