Supported by Vision Jeunesse Nouvelle’s Economic Empowerment grants, 45 young agricultural entrepreneurs establish a post-harvest preservation hub to reduce fruit and vegetable spoilage.

A modern, solar-powered agricultural cold-storage facility initiated by the VJN Youth Agri-Cooperative was officially inaugurated in Rubavu District.

The facility enables 45 young smallholder farmers to store high-value horticulture produce including tomatoes, peppers, and avocados, extending shelf life from three days to over three weeks and significantly boosting market bargaining power.

Economic Sovereignty Through Sustainable Cooperative Enterprise

Through business incubation at Vision Jeunesse Nouvelle, cooperative members received business mentorship, micro-credit access, and digital market-linking training.

The cooperative has already established direct supply contracts with hospitality businesses across Gisenyi and Kigali, guaranteeing stable prices throughout harvest cycles.
