On August 20, Vision Jeunesse Nouvelle wrapped up Colonie de Vacances 2026 at the sites bringing together children from the Nyundo, Rugerero, and Kanama sectors of Rubavu District — marking the end of a full month of holiday programming built around safety, joy, and inspiration.
A Month of Discovery
For an entire month, children from these three sectors came together in a safe, joyful, and inspiring environment designed to help them grow in every sense. Throughout the program, they had the opportunity to:
- Discover and nurture their talents
- Make new friends across communities and sectors
- Learn new things, expanding their knowledge and skills
- Play sports, staying active and engaged
- Grow in confidence, building belief in themselves and their abilities
More Than a Holiday Activity
For Vision Jeunesse Nouvelle, Colonie de Vacances has always been about more than simply keeping children occupied during the school holidays. It is an opportunity to help children discover what they are capable of, build their confidence, develop their talents, and create positive memories in a space where they feel safe and supported.
Watching the growth over the course of the month — the talents discovered and nurtured, the friendships formed, and the confidence built — was a powerful reminder of why this program matters so much to the children and communities it serves.
A Community Effort
None of this would have been possible without the collective effort of many hands. A heartfelt thank you goes out to:
- The children who brought energy and enthusiasm to every activity
- Their parents, who trusted and supported the program throughout
- The facilitators and volunteers, who guided and nurtured the children each day
- Our partners, including Misereor, whose support made this year's edition possible
- Everyone else who contributed to making this year's Colonie de Vacances a success and a joy
Looking Ahead
While the sites in Nyundo, Rugerero, and Kanama have now wrapped up, the remaining sites are set to close tomorrow, marking the official end of this year's edition of Colonie de Vacances.
As we close this chapter, we carry forward the memories, friendships, and confidence built by every child who took part — and we look forward to continuing this journey next year.
